Potty Training Consultations
Personalised guidance on what to do, step by step!
The time has come for baby to learn how to use the potty - or has it?
In the noisy world of parenting, it might seem your child is showing some signs of being ready for potty training, yet at other times it seems not. This is usually compounded by the conflicting advice you hear from friends and family, or read online.
Do I even have to potty train?
You never "have to" do anything, but a child who has been eliminating (i.e. peeing and/or pooping) in their diaper all their life would unlikely decide on their own that he/she would want to do so otherwise unless all their peers around them are doing things differently and they desire to "fit in".
This is despite the fact that many children are developmentally capable of controlling their bowel muscles and sphincter muscles from below 1-year-old and below 2-years-old respectively. There may also be other physiological and behavioral readiness a child may display.
As such, caregiver support in providing the right environment and tools for your child to learn how to eliminate outside a diaper can mean a smoother and shorter learning process. We teach the practical scripts, tips and hacks which will help make potty training enjoyable and successful.
Progress with learning something new is never linear, so we equip you with the skills also to troubleshoot with practical solutions when potty training doesn't seem to go so well.

Does my child have to "go commando" to potty train?
Going diaper free is the eventual goal of potty training rather than a necessary part of the process of learning to do so.
While some families do use it as the main approach to potty training, it is not the only one. Our Baby Planner will work with your family to understand your family's lifestyle and preferences to assess with you what the best approach might be for your potty learning journey.
Is Elimination Communication the same as Potty Training?
Not exactly.
Elimination Communication (“EC”) is a philosophy of care where caregiver(s) focus on building a connection between caregiver and child in order to be able to identify and offer an appropriate response to provide a place for baby to eliminate outside of a diaper. This would primarily mean the caregiver's response to helping a child eliminate outside diapers when they observe certain behaviours by the child when he/she is younger (below 2 years old).
Potty training ("PT") on the other hand, is the intentional action on caregiver’(s) part to lead and/or prompt a child to consistently eliminate outside of their diapers, with the goal for the child to be eliminating outside of diapers independently by a broad intended end date.
The difference between the 2 is hence the intention behind the practices. One family might decide to EC with the goal of PT, another might not.
And PT requires for the child is developmentally and behaviorally ready to PT, while EC does not.
